FOUNDATION LAUNCHES LATEST BOOK EXPLORING THE HIDDEN HUMAN DIMENSIONS OF INNOVATION

09 Oct 2008

The Australian Business Foundation today released its latest publication, ‘Inside the Innovation Matrix- Finding the hidden human dimensions’, which was officially launched by The Hon Dr Craig Emerson MP, Minister for Small Business, Independent Contractors and the Service Economy and Minister Assisting the Finance Minister on Deregulation.

Chairman of the Australian Business Foundation, Stephen Mills said the focus of the book is on the pivotal role of people as innovators and how innovation itself is a potent competitive force that drives productivity for both businesses and Australia.

“This book delves beyond the traditional views of innovation that focus just on research laboratories and frontier technologies.

“The book explores how people, their knowledge, connections and networks can transform businesses and create new value for customers worldwide.

“The papers in this book illustrate the new patterns of innovation evident in modern services-dominated economies and focus on productivity-enhancing innovation that occurs through collaboration and knowledge sharing by business enterprises.

“Writers in the ‘Inside the Innovation Matrix’ book illuminate the human aspects of innovation as diverse as:

  • capitalising on the diaspora of Australians living and working internationally;
  • mapping the often unrecognised and informal social networks where the knowledge and ideas critical to  innovation in organisations flow and grow;
  • making cities and regions knowledge hubs and magnets for highly skilled people.

“The key innovation indicator is not more R & D, but a critical mass of more innovative Australian businesses and workplaces competing globally.

“The book being launched is a collection of 14 expert papers by 26 authors, drawing from a variety of thinkers in business and in the academic community to illuminate the workings of innovation as a social process and not just a technical process,” Mr Mills concluded.
